Rising to the much
needed occasion, the K. L. E. Society took the challenge of producing well
trained nurses in the city of Belgaum. To begin with, the Diploma programme
was started in the year 1987 with the intake of just 60 students. Then,
realising its increasing role, B.Sc. Nursing degree course was started in
the year 1990 with the intake of 40 students and later M.Sc. Nursing
(P.G.Nursing) was started in the year 1998 in three specialities; 1) Medical
Surgical Nursing 2) Obstetrics & Gynaecologic Nursing 3)
Community Health Nursing
with the intake of 8 seats The diploma in Nursing Course is affiliated
to Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board, Bangalore. While
B.Sc. Nursing Degree and M.Sc. Nursing Degree courses are affiliated to Rajiv
Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. All these three programmes
are recognised by Karnataka Nursing Council, Bangalore at the State level
and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi at the National level. All these three
programmes are being run in an independent and well equipped college
building. At present the total student's strength in the discipline of
Nursing is 348.
During the year 1997 this college has been affiliated to
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi and this enables
the Management to conduct post certificate B.Sc. Nursing degree course for
Diploma Nurses through distance education and K.L.E. Society's College of
Nursing is recognised as one of the study centres for the same course. At
present there are as many as 72 students have enrolled themselves for this
course.
The College is proud
to mention that students of this college who have completed their training
are in great demand all over the country and abroad ( Delhi, Calcutta,
Mumbai, Chennai, Kerala and several other parts of the country). It is our
pride to record here that they are employed in foreign countries. Summing
up, it may be said that the College has adequate and sufficient facilities
to produce quality nurses, well trained and well groomed in their respective
discipline and they can confidently go out from this Institute and serve any
where in the world as good, loyal, efficient nurses.
